Colorado State Patrol, today has 5 regional communications centers to assist the public needs and their field officers. The districts include, Pueblo, Alamosa, Craig, Lakewood(Denver) and Montrose. There is a CSP Memorial for the 24 Fallen Officers from 1941 until 2007.

This fledgling public safety organization derived its authority from legislative mandate, referred to as the Patrol Act Et seq C.R.S. - enacted by the General assembly in April 1935, despite strong opposition by the public.  Established in 1935 as a Division of the Colorado Department of Highways. The agency originally known as The Colorado State Highway Courtesy Patrol, one of the only 4 law enforcement agencies then existing then in the State of Colorado.

The date September 23 - 1935 (44) recruits selected from a pool of 7,500 applicants began 6 weeks of extensive training at Camp George West.  Following graduation each patrolman was assigned a post in Colorado.

Two-way radio wasn’t installed in the CSP cruisers until 1949. Much earlier officers were notified of service calls in rather unique ways.

By 1945 the ranks of the Colorado Courtesy Patrol had grown to 100 Patrolmen, 10 Sergeants, 6 Captains, 1 Assistant Chief and the Chief. In 1947 the organization’s name was formally changed to the Colorado State Patrol.

Police telegraphy apparently was never used by CSP. Their radio guard was handled by Denver Police Department KGPX. .

APCO publications of the 1950's had The State Patrol System served by the Denver Police Department KGPX accepting inter-zone communications for relay by radiotelephone or other means to Colorado cities.
