Futurliner to Safetyliner

In 1940 General Motors began building Futurliners for the Parade of Progress show which started in 1936.  Twelve of these vehicles were built for the show which continued until 1956.
Some were sold but two were donated to the Michigan State Police in 1959 at their request. One of the Futurliners was refurbished, repainted in State Police colors and converted into a traveling display to promote safety and law enforcement. The second Futurliner was kept as a standby.
Both of the Futurliners were sold for $1,200 each and resided in a truck scrap yard near Kalamazoo for a number of years. They were resold in 1999.
The picture to the left was original appearance and below is the one that was refurbished by MSP for their own use.  At the bottom shows the two that were received by the Michigan State Police.
