Born
February 24, 1916 in Wallace, Michigan, the son of Emil and Esther
(Larson) Anderson,
Roy was a 1934 graduate of Gwinn High School. On June 18, 1949, he
married Mary Milakovich in Ironwood. Roy taught radio at CCC camps and
later became a Warrant Officer for the Army Signal Corp in WWII.
Following his military obligations, he was employed as a Radio
Engineer for the Michigan State Police and later set up a statewide
radio system for the Michigan Department of Transportation. In 1950,
he and his wife Mary started Anderson Communications and was
associated with Motorola for over 58 years. Active in his community,
he was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 60 years
where he taught Sunday School, served as an usher and was a member of
the Men's Club. Roy was also a member of the Marquette Male Chorus,
Marquette Noon Kiwanis for 30 years and has been known to many as
"W8WNT" since 1936 with his love for Amateur Radio. He
taught radio at NMU for two years and was founder of Whirlaways Square
Dance Group. Roy enjoyed bass fishing on the Escanaba River and Bass
